カルマヨギ
One who connects to God through one's prescribed activity is called karma-yogi.

アロギャ
Arogya is a Sanskrit word that means "overall well-being" and "health of mind, body and spirit." Generally speaking, it means living a healthy life without disease and having complete health in mind and body.

マハ
Maha is a Sanskrit word meaning “great."

マハムドラ
Mahamudra is a Sanskrit term meaning "great symbol." It comes from the roots maha, meaning "great," and mudra, meaning "symbol or gesture."

Mahamudra can denote a body of teachings within Tibetan Buddhism, which uses mahamudra as a means to view the world as it exists, for all its beauty and perfection. It is a way to achieve harmony and experience bliss.

In yoga, mahamudra has a different meaning. It refers to a mudra in Hatha yoga that governs and improves the practitioner's control over their sexual energy. This is a key step in awakening kundalini.

デビ
Devi is the Sanskrit word for "goddess." It is the feminine form of the masculine, deva, meaning "god." As gender-specific terms for a deity in Hinduism, devi and deva translate as "heavenly," "divine," or "anything of excellence."

The notion of a goddess is multi-faceted. She is known by a myriad of names, worshipped and personified in many forms. For example, Devi Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity. Saraswati is the goddess of arts, wisdom and learning. Parvati is the goddess of love, fertility and devotion. Durga is the goddess of power.

In the Shakta tradition of Hinduism, devi is the supreme being; while, in the Smarta tradition, she is one of the five primary forms of Brahma. In other Hindu traditions, devi embodies the active energy and power of deva. She always appears with him, complementing him: such as Lasksmi with Vishnu in Vaishnavism, and Parvati with Shiva in Shaivism.

Devi can be worshiped and channeled through yoga practice. There are even some poses and practices in yoga, such as goddess pose, that are inspired by devi.

ダルマ
Dharma is a Hindu, Buddhist and yogic concept which refers to the idea of a law or principle governing the universe. For an individual to live out their dharma is for them to act in accordance with this law. In Buddhism, it is said that acting in this way is the path to enlightenment.

The implication of dharma is that there is a right way for each person to carry out their life. Dharma is closely related to the concepts of duty and service to others, or sev. It has no single-word Western translation, which sometimes makes it a difficult concept for Western practitioners to grasp. One close translation, however, is “right way of living.”

ダルマチャクラ
Dharmachakra is a Sanskrit word which means "the wheel of dharma."

マラ
Mala is a Sanskrit word meaning "garland" or "impurity." It is also the term for a string of beads that has been used by sages and those with spiritual aspirations for thousands of years. Yogis and Buddhists were the first to use mala to enhance their spiritual practices. Also called yoga beads, mala is used to keep count of mantra repetitions, or japa, during meditation.

マンダラ
A mandala is a geometric design, often circular, that symbolizes the universe. The Sanskrit term is loosely translated as “circle” or “essence” in English.

The mandala is used as a sacred symbol in Hindu and Buddhist rituals. In yoga, a mandala is a visual tool that helps focus attention during meditation.

マントラ
A mantra is a sacred word, sound or phrase, usually in Sanskrit, which is believed to have a spiritual and psychological power. Meaning “tool of thought” in Sanskrit, a mantra is often used in meditation as a way to harness and focus the mind.

Mantra yoga uses repetition and chanting of mantras to encourage the mind to enter into a meditative state, so that the practitioner may begin to connect with the Divine within themselves. It is said that in choosing to chant mantras you are changing your vibration and evoking a higher level of consciousness.

ムドラ
A mudra is a symbolic, ritualistic gesture used in yoga, Buddhism and Hinduism. The word is Sanskrit meaning “gesture,” “mark” or “seal.” Mudras are most commonly known as hand positions in yoga and meditation, which are believed to affect the flow of energy in the body and unblock chakras.

There are numerous types of mudras. Each type is thought to have a specific effect on the body and mind by clearing the psychic centers and energy channels. Although hand mudras are the most common in yoga, there are also head, postural, lock and perineal mudras.

ヴァイジャ
Vaidya is a Sanskrit word meaning “physician.” Specifically, it refers to a practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine, an ancient form of healing with roots in India. Traditionally, a senior practitioner was called a vaidyaraja (physician king), while the personal vaidya of Indian royal families was known as raja vaidya (king's physician). Today, students of traditional Ayurvedic medicine train for up to 12 years before being conferred with the title of vaidya.

Ayurveda balances the mind, the body's inner energy and a yogi's lifestyle in order to heal and maintain the physical body. Among it's healing tools, Ayurveda includes regular yoga practice, meditation and nutrition.

プジャ
Puja is the act or ritual of worshiping or communicating with a god. Meaning "worship" in Sanskrit, puja centers on ideas of adoration, honor, worship and devotion. It is practiced through a ceremony, prayer, song or other ritual directed toward a particular god, oftentimes with an object or figure that assists in gaining access to the Divine.

Within the practice of yoga, individuals may seek to connect with the Divine through meditation and poses in order to communicate love and devotion to a specific god or guru.

カルマ
Karma is a Sanskrit word which means “action” or “work.” It derives from the root verb kri, which means “to act.” As a concept, therefore, karma can refer to all the actions a person makes, both with their body and in their mind. All activity creates karma.

Karma can also refer to the spiritual concept of cause and effect, whereby the actions of an individual create their own future. The idea here, of course, is that positive actions create good karma, leading to future happiness, while negative ones create bad karma, which leads to suffering.

Karma is an important idea in many religions originating in ancient India, as well as in yogic philosophy. It is first referenced in the Upanishads as a concept related to causality.

ニルバナ
Nirvana is the central concept of Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism, and is the ultimate goal as defined by these religious philosophies; It is the state in which the soul is freed from rebirth.

In Sanskrit, the term means "blown out" or "extinguished." Nirvana can be defined as the state in which an individual experiences no suffering as he/she is free from rebirth.
